Instructions:

  • Construct a scenario involving an employee who is contesting an organization’s policy or decision. This could be a policy they feel is discriminatory, unfair, or a staffing or management decision – but you are not limited to only these options.
  • You will assume the role of the health care manager in this scenario, and will listen and respond to the employee’s concerns.
    • In a concise paragraph, summarize the situation. Clearly state the law the employee believes your organization is violating, and why.
    • In a second paragraph, provide your analysis of the concern raised by the employee. Your response should include relevant sources, as in-text citations. You will need to confirm or deny a violation.
    • In a third paragraph, state the action steps you and the employee will take. If a violation was present, explain how you will rectify the situation. If no violation was present, explain how you will notify the employee. If other parties should also be notified, or if an edit to a policy is needed, state that as well.
  • This documentation will be placed in the employee’s file. Your writing should be professional, unbiased, and reflect a scholarly tone.

Answer #1

I work in a private Organization as a health care manager. I got a complaint from the ward that many of the nurses are on leave and it's affecting the patient care . Simultaneously one of the nurse came to me to complaint about the workload on the staffs indicated by double duties , continuous 10 days duty without any break etc . All this was due to the shortage of staffs . The staff was defending with the help of the policy of hospital in which it was clear mentioned that 1 nurse for 2 patients . The law which the employee believes the organization is violating is about the staff patient ratio because the staffs were given three to four patients at a shift and it was the leading cause for the increased number of misconducts happening in the organization.

To verify the complaint raised by the staffs I did an assessment of the duty roasters and why is this happening . On assessment I found that it was correct , a single staff was posted with 3-4 patients even at night duties and because of which the staffs were on leave .

It was very stressful to find this situation and it was an urgent situation to be resolved . To rectify this I did a thorough assessment of the problem and it was found that shortage of staffs was the ultimate reason behind this. No corrections were needed in the policy rather a recruitment for urgent hiring of nursing staffs were required and an advertisement regarding the same was released .
