Communication development in infants:-

A mother who spends sufficient hours with her baby easily Understand which baby cries indicate pain and which ones indicate hunger, frustration or excitement.

Babies not communicate with language but they express their needs and excitements with body postures, cries and facial expressions.

1. Cooing and gurgling :- with in first couple of months infants begins to vocalize and repeat vocalizations. Gurgling and musical vocalizations are known as cooing and these serve as entertainment source for child. They use these sound while sleeping or taking a nap infants also learn about the rhythm and pause of conversation. They take turn when other person’s vocalization has stopped. Cooing initially starts with vowels sound but later on consonants are also added as child grow to learn more words in his vocabulary.

2. Vocalizations at age of four to six years:- at this stage Infants start learning more elaborate vocalizations which includes the learning of language . The words in their vocabulary increases and included the sounds required for learning of a language. Deaf babies use gestures communication to express their feelings. Gestures are easy way to express vocalizations.

3. At age of ten months babies start Understanding the most words of language but unable to speak frequently those words. This is the initial stage of learning of language. Infant started developing the Understanding of language.

4. At age of twelve to thirteen years infants will be able to speak there first word. Sometimes they speak partial words to convey their feelings. This partial word or one word expression of feeling is known as holophrasic speech. Parents or sometimes the person who spend most of their time with infant are able to translate the partial speech of infant.

5. Sometimes babies might turn away , close their eyes or sometimes become irritated. If this happens let baby rest because may be infant is not in mood to vocalize.

Every infant has different growth level they vocalize at different rates, usually there are no cause of baby crying but one must ask our family doctor if there is any disparity in infants language skills or hearing capacity.

One must consult doctor if infant cry for more than usual period. Doctor will tell the cause of child’s distress. Most probably there are less chances of distress and one must remain calm and relaxed when infant is crying or upset.
