Postoperative nursing assessment:

  • Assess for the patient's pain
  • Monitor the vital signs.
  • Assess the wound for redness, inflammation, tenderness.
  • Assess for oozing on the surgical site.
  • Assess for bleeding, drainage, or swelling on the surgical site.
  • Assess liver function.
  • Assess fluid and nutritional intake.

Nursing care of cholecystectomy patient:

  • Administer the pain medication as per physician order.
  • Administer antibiotics as prescribed.
  • Maintain aseptic technique.
  • Change of surgical dressing.
  • Explain deep breathing and coughing exercise.
  • Administer nutrition rich diet for faster healing.
  • Maintain intake and output chart and assess the bowel sounds.
  • Evaluate the lab studies to prevent infection.
