Jane Scott, 21 years old, comes to the health-care provider to determine what she can do for mild dysmenorrheal. She states that this is not incapacitating, but creates discomfort during the first cky of her menses. She states that she does not want anything that makes her sleepy and that she has not tried any over-the-counter drugs. After further discussion with Ms. Scott, the health-care provider suggests that she try aspirin or ibuprofen as a beginning drug to see how she responds. She is told to take 2 aspirin (325 mg tablets) every 4 hours. 1. Why will aspirin relieve dysmenorrhea? 2. Ms. Scott calls you to tell you that she feels much better when taking the aspirin; however, it causes heartburn and she wants to know what to do. What is your response? 3. Ms. Scott wants to know what side effects she may experience when taking aspirin. What is your response? 4. Since she will be getting married next month, Ms. Scott wants to know if aspirin is safe if she becomes pregnant. What is your response? 5. Ms. Scott calls you and is very upset. Her one-year-old niece was visiting and ate the aspirin tablets. She says she thinks the child ate 5 or 6, but it could be as many as 10. What should you tell Ms. Scott?

1. Dysmenorrhoea means painful menstruation that starts before the onset of period and lasts for 2 to 3 days .

Aspirin is the first non steroidal antiinflammatory drug to be discovered .It is the best analgesic during menstruation by reducing peripheral prostaglandin in our body .

2.Aspirin Stresses more on the stomach lining and cause heart burn.

This can be reduced by using antacids along with aspirin such as calcium carbonate , aluminium hydroxide .

Advice to take plenty of liquids and avoid spicy foods.

Even after using these medications the heart burn does not reduce ,then advice to stop aspirin which can cause many complications.

• Abdominal pain

• Headache
• Cramps

Long term usage of aspirin therapy slowly damages the organs and leads to gastrointestinal , stomach and brain hemorrhage because it has antiplatelet effect.

So it should be taken in right quantity and right time .

4 There is no harm if Ms Scott takes aspirin during or before pregnancy .But it should be taken in low amounts according to prescription.

Already many women using aspirin to reduce high blood pressure but in lower amounts . High dose of aspirin cause miscarriage .
