What involvement does management need to have to achieve buy-in from internal and external stakeholders?
Ans) Presuming mean buy-in the only way to achieve it is to take the time to explain the benefits to each stakeholder and the organisation, encourage suggestions and involvement in decision making (before the decisions are made) and ensure all final decisions are transparent. It’s hard work but for less work than any alternative.
- Stakeholders are the customers, employees, board members, owners and interested community members who shape the working of an organization. These stakeholders may support or oppose the decisions made by the business' managers. Stakeholder buy-in is the process of involving these people in the decision-making process in hopes of reaching a broader consensus on the organization's future.
- Each has their own perspective and their own needs. While the message and the facts are the same regardless of the groups, it is the way you provide the message that makes a difference.
- The board needs one set of information. Employees need that information at a more generalized level. The media need the information from a PR standpoint. Customers need different content.
- The best way is to let the marketing department or person in charge of this function, establish the key stakeholders. Then put the annual plan together for each, keeping as much consistency in messaging as possible. Then varying the language, frequency and tone by audience to match their particular needs.
Like anything else, it is the upfront planning that takes the most time. Once it’s in place, you just drop content into the vehicles you are created on the schedule you have set, varying when the situation demands.
