2a. Why do you think some women seem to suffer greatly from PMS, while others seem to "sail right through" without any bothersome symptoms? Explain your reasoning.

Pre menstrual syndrome is a medical condition including group of signs and symptoms before menstruation. PMSs is very common among women but intensity of symptoms may vary greatly in each and everyone.PMS iNCludes physical and emotional symptoms.

Physical symptoms

  • Lower abdominal pain : Low intense lower abdominal pain is common for girls.Sometimes they have diarrhea.Lowe abdominal pain can be relieved by hot water bags and rest is advised.
  • Fatigue:It is the commonest symptom.Many of them cannot do their work due to fatigue which forced them to take leave from job.Maintain adequate hydration is necessary during this period.Include more fruits and vegetables in the diet at that time.Some have excessive hunger in that period.
  • Muscle cramps :Muscle cramps of lower extremities and back pain
  • Breast pain:Many of them have tenderness in the breast
  • Head ache: One of the common symptom.Try to get good sleep.And avoid too strain to the body and follow vegetarian diet during this time.

Emotional symptoms

  • Irritability:Women are very much during this period.Close relatives mus understand the reason her behavioral changes
  • Mood swings:Women with mood disorders have its severe form during now.Relatives have a close look on them.Suicide tendencies are more on them this period.
  • Depressive features:Lack of interest,inactivity,behavioral changes,always seems to be sad.These are symptoms

Why the intensity of PMS vary from each other?

  • The intensity of PMS vary greatly from each other.It may be affected many of the factors.The hormonal changes associated with menstruation greatly affect the PMS.Surge of progesteron and diminished amount of estrogen may cause some symptoms of PMS.
  • Hormonal changes during menstruation affects serotonin releases which may be responsible for mood changes such as irritability,depression
  • Release of prostaglandins from endometrial cells during or before periods cause abdominal cramps.The release of prostaglandins increased,the cramps may be greater.
  • Some body factors unique to each and everyone such as immunity power of the person,underlying diseases such as bipolar diseases,depression etc may have role in PMS.Intense work pressure severe strain,lack of physical activities,lack of emotional stability of the persons also the factors.
  • Women with polycystic ovary disease may also have intense PMS.
