Answer #1

It is important to clean or check the integrity of the skin in an animal's ear and visualise the tympanic membrane before administering medication. An otoscope is used to visualise and if the tympanic membrane is not visualised, a cerumenolytic agent is used to remove the ear wax before administering the medication. If any infection is seen through otoscope the swab specimen is taken before cleaning or administering medication into the animal's ear.
