Explain and define IOWA research model

IOWA model of Research was developed by a nurse researcher from Iowa city to bring a systematic steps in conducting of evidenced based practices it focuses on involvement of all strata of nursing personnel from a direct care provider to nurse leaders for any change .

This model has various steps involved

1.identifying the problem:we are supposed to identify what is the present problem of practice that we are facing identify issue which is quality initiative .eg increased patient falls is a problem

2.make a team : make a team involving all sections of nursing like nurses,team leaders,nurse managers to find an evidence based practice to reduce the no of falls

3.review of literature or retrieve the evidences:the selected team has to review the literature for evidences to prevent fall

4. Grading the evidence :out of all the retrieved evidences from the literature the team has to grade the evidences as per the most appropriate one,easy to implement,instititional interest for example for fall prevention we can educate patient and relatives on fall,fall risk assessment score,fall prevention methods like alarms,anti skid floors ,use of side rails

5. Develop an evidence based standard :out of all the possible evidences develop a standard

6: implement the new standard by means of training and sensitization

7: Evaluation of the evidence based practice : A regular audit to be done to evaluate the effectiveness of the practice fall rates to be captured and compared
