2, -Explain patient Gout is a disease occurs by deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the body tissue mainly around the joints.
-Allopurinol is a Xanthine oxidase enzyme, it is an effective drug for decreasing urate levels.
-Advice the patient not to stop the allopurinol suddenly. stopping this medicine suddenly can make the gout symptoms worst.
-Allopurinol is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor it decreases the uric acid production by the body.
-It causes side effects to include stomach upset, nausea, diarrhea, drowsiness, etc.
-Simvastatin is an antilipidemic drug help to lower cholesterol.
-Lisinopril with allopurinol increase the risk of severe allergic reactions and infections. Tell the patient to inform the phsyician before starting the allopurinol medication with lisinopril.
-Hydrochlorothiazide can interact with allopurinol. Thiazide can increase the serum urate level. This should be informed to the physician previously.
-Allopurinol initial dose 100mg to 200mg once a day till serum uric acid level 6mg/dl or less.
-Advice the patient to inform if any side effects persist.
-Don't stop the medication without a doctors orders.
-Inform doctors if you have any other medical illness
-Drink plenty of water daily.
-Maintain the weight
-Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains.
-Avoid high-fructose corn syrup and naturally sweet fruit juices.
-Avoid fat intake, consume poultry, lean meat, low fat, protein-rich diet.
-Avoid alcohol.
