Pathophysiology of UTI:

The bacteria usually present around the rectum may get into the urine and enter into the urethra. Sometimes it may go into the bladder and even reaches the kidney. It causes irritation on the lining of the urethra and leads to the urinary tract infection. Sometimes sexually transmitted diseases may also cause urinary infection.

Treatment:

  • Intake of plenty of fluids helps to relieve the symptoms.
  • Oral analgesics administered to relieve the back pain.
  • Antibiotics are administered to reduce the infection and to get rid of UTI.

Mechanism of action of drug Tylenol:

Tylenol is an NSAID used to treat pain. It relieves the pain and discomfort related to Urinary tract infection. It stimulates the heat-regulating centers in the brain and causes vasodilatation and thereby reduces the pain.

Dosage: 325mg every 6 hours.

Side effects:

  • nausea
  • stomach pain
  • loss of appetite
  • dark urine
  • clay-colored stool
  • rash
  • headache
  • itching.

Patient Education:

  • Always wash the area from front to back.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • void as soon as possible and avoid the urge to urinate.
  • Wash the area thoroughly after urination.
  • Include more amount of Vitamin C in the diet.
  • Maintain personal cleanliness and hygenic measures.
  • Complete the course of antibiotics to prevent the recurrence of the disease.
