Answer :

A 3 years old child is presenting with the history of yellow and green discharges from eye since 2 days.

It indicates " Bacterial conjunctivitis ".

Bacterial conjunctivitis :

It is an inflammation and infection of the outer membrane of the eye ball and inner eye lid due to bacterial infection.

Due to this infection we will see the

* Eye discharges,

* Eye pain and

* Red ness of the eye.

Pathophysiology :

* due to chlamydia Trochomatus infection,

* there is an inflammation,

* due to this vascular response will be taken place.

* then cellular response,

* there is an purulant discharge formation from the eye.

Medication :

1. Bacitracin

2. Ciprofloxacin

3. Chloromphenocol

These topical antibiotics should be used.

We can use ciprofloxacin eye drops 1 drop every 2 hours once.

Side effects :

* temporary burning of the eyes.

* eye itching,

* tearing,

* blurred vision,

* red ness if eye.

Patient education :

* educate to don't touch the baby eyes with hands.

* use clean towels, and wash cloths daily.

* Change pillow covers.

* wash the hand before touching baby and before and after administration of eye drops.

* clean eyes with walm cotton clothes.

* put eye drops every second hourly one drop.

* avoid to exposure to the dust.

* provide adequate rest.
