Biomolecules are biological material found within the cell that helps the cell to carry out different functions. These biomolecules can be macromolecules or micromolecules.

The four major biomolecules are carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acid. Other biomolecules include

  • glycolipids,
  • sterols
  • monosaccharides
  • Vitamins
  • Hormones
  • neurotransmitter
  • primary and secondary Metabolites
  • amino acids

The major difference that exists between these biomolecules is varying shape, size, structure and the different array of functions that they carry out within a cell.
