1.major depressive disorder is a mental disorder characterized by a persistent feeling of low mental ability,sadness, disinterested towards everything of life characterised by various sleeping disorders,eating disorders,poor concentration, anxiety, disinterested in activities causing pleasure,slow thinking,angry agitated,tear fullness,hopelessness.

2.signs and symptoms are .

Sleeping disorders: excessive sleep, insomnia,disturbed sleep.

Eating symptoms: binge eating,low appetite,

Disinterested in activities like sex, leisure, hobbies,poor concentration.

Anxiety, agitation

Tearfullness, hopelessness,lonliness

Doesn't speak or express to anyone .

3.effect on work.

The affected person will have very poor concentration which will inhibit that person being focused to achieve his professional aim .this affects his work.poor decision making , lack of innovation all affects the work

Effect on family:the patient shows no interest in sex,prefers to be aloof,does not mingle with people,feeling and verbalixation of hopefullness makes that family prone to have a dysfunctional family system.sucidal tendency also ruins the family peace

Effect on social life :majority of the population are depressed leading to a hike economical burden on the society, depressed people cannot take decisions .they have no visionary to improve societal norms.

4.in the recent years we have the mental health act which governs the laws pertaining to depressive disorder patients .the law gives a clear understanding that the patient with depression has the right and capability for consent,right for treatment.

Any person who has the capability to understand the treatment has the right for concern.before taking the consent the healthcare provider should check whether the depressed patient has capability for consent . has all the information regarding the treatment explained in the best possible way,check for any sort of pressure or force to provide consent the patient should not be pressurized from family or healthcare provider.
