On a cold morning in October 1993, Gordon Guyatt, when a young faculty member at McMaster Medical School in Hamilton, Ontario, in his mailbox, found a brochure that was published by the American College of Physicians (ACP) having the title: In This Era of Evidence-Based Medicine. For Guyatt, this was not new as he had coined the term nearly 3 years earlier in a short editorial, in the ACP Journal Club. Following this over a short period of time, evidence-based medicine, that is basically “the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence while making decisions regarding the care of individual patients” evolved into an emblem for an entire generation.
