If it is found to be fake,fault ,plagiarized, or any form of illegality can lead to legal consequences followed by disapproving the research.This an happen in pre ,intra or post research. In case if it is found in future about the misconduct in a research. It can lead to serious consequences .The Office of Research Integrity plays a key role here .It is applicable to all federally funded research which means the fund was received from the government or the federal agencies.The ORI in the Department of health and Human service investigate and submit a final report to the jurisdiction. Rapid Response Technical assistance plays a key role in helping the federal agency to investigate and throughout the process the information are kept confidential under Freedom of Information Act.
If the misconduct is found in CTN trail then the Research Integrity officer to be informed at the earliest.It will be informed to NIDA who investigate and report to Food and Drug Administration. The FDA then takes the responsibility to investigate it from their end and if confirmed the research misconduct will lead to regulatory actions on the researcher.
