Derive for me a hypothetical Demand and Supply schedule. Graph the relationship showing equilibrium price and quantity. Shift the demand curve and show the new equilibrium's. Shift the supply curve and do likewise.

Can someone explain to me how to do this? Chapter wasn't clear

Answer #1

Case when supply curve shifts left: When supply curve shifts to left from AS to AS1 while demand curve remains the same. Price rises from P to P1 while output falls from Y to Y1. Equilibrium shifts from point E to E1.

Case when supply curve shifts right: When supply curve shifts to right from S to S1 while demand curve remains the same. Price falls from P to P1 while output rises from Y to Y1. Equilibrium shifts from point A to B.

Supply and Demand v Given what you have learned about 1) demand (and its determinants) and quantity demanded and 2) supply (and its determinants) and quantity supplied work with your group members to analyze this hypothetical situation: There is a shortage of eggs. Consumers are substituting what they perceive to be "healthy" sandwich spreads for traditional mayonnaise. As a result, the makers of mayonnaise are introducing new sandwich spreads into the market The price of traditional mayonnaise is falling. Why?...

In the supply & demand model of a market, we predict changes in the equilibrium price and equilibrium quantity of a product associated with changes in the non-price determinants of either supply or demand. On a graph, when there is a change in a non-price determinant of demand, then we show the demand curve shifting to the right or left, depending on whether demand is increasing or decreasing. Similarly, when there is a change in a non-price determinant of supply,...

    1. Draw the supply and demand for wheat on a graph, and indicate the equilibrium price and quantity. Suppose rice and wheat are consumption substitutes, and corn and wheat are production substitutes. Describe and show what happens in the market for wheat when 2 events occur at the same time: 1) the price of corn increases, and 2), a drought (lack of rain) occurs in rice-growing regions, causing the supply of rice to fall.. Suppose the drought in rice has...

    13. How shifts in demand and supply affect equilibriumConsider the market for pens. Suppose that a new educational study has proven that the practice of writing, erasing, and rewriting improves students' ability to process information, leading parents to steer away from pen use in favor of pencils. Moreover, the price of ink, an important input in pen production, has dropped considerably. On the following graph, labeled Scenario 1, indicate the effect these two events have on the demand for and supply...

    2. Changes in the money supply The following graph represents the money market in a hypothetical economy. As in the United States, this economy has a central bank called the Fed, but unlike in the United States, the economy is closed (that is, the economy does not interact with other economies in the world). The money market is currently in equilibrium at an interest rate of 6% and a quantity of money equal to $0.4 trillion, as indicated by the grey...
