A male caregiver who is about 6 fee, 3 inches and 250 pounds brings a 5-year-old boy into the clinic. The child is injured, and it appears that he has been struck pretty hard. While the pediatrician is attending to the child's injuries, the very nervous caregiver paces to the receptionist's desk, leans over, and says, "My God, what have I done? I did not mean to hit him; I got so mad when he wouldn't mid me!" Your response might be, "Get out of my face; the police will take care of you!' Or it might be, "How could a brute like you hit a child so small?" Or struggling to be therapeutic, remembering that the abuser is also a victim, try to accept this person, obviously distraught and upset, as another human being of equal value, you might reply, "As hard as this is for me, you've taken the first step in realizing your mistake. We're treating the boy now, Please just have a seat, try to remain calm, and I'll have the doctor speak with you as soon as she's finished."Identify the conflicting values expressed. What would you say if you were the receptionist?

Answer #1

If I am the receptionist in that situation, I deal with him calmly and politely. Even though he behaved harshly with the child, he realized his mistake later. Better discuss the outcomes of his behavior to avoid the repetition of such behavior in the future. So I treat him as a normal human being and provide emotional support to the person. I respect his values and do a favor for the child goodness. As a receptionist, I should treat all persons as equal irrespective of individual personal behavior.

There was no question about Carl’s genius. Seven years ago he decided to enter the competitive nightmare that the personal computer business had become. Although on the surface that appeared to be a rather non-genius-like move, the genius came in the unique designs and features that he developed for his computer. He also figured a way to promise delivery in only two days for the local and regional market. Other computer makers also had rapid production and delivery, but they...
