Answer #1

Post operative urinary retention is one of the major and common complications of a surgery and anesthesia. The drugs used for anesthesia often causes a hindrance in the contraction & relaxation of the bladder muscles & nerves resulting in the loss of sensation of a filled or overfilled bladder. Since the patient cannot feel the need to void, it leads to overstretching of a bladder thus resulting in bladder injury which is very fatal and life threatening.
