◦ Refers to a group of related concepts, definitions, and statements that describe a certain view of nursing phenome (observable occurrences) from which to describe, explain, or predict outcomes

-Represents abstract ideas rather than concrete facts

The theory is important because the practice of nursing is based on a specific body of knowledge that is built on theory

5 concepts of theory in nursing:-

1. Person

2. Environment

3. Health

4. Nursing

5. Caring

The ultimate goal of theory is to support excellence in practice.

3. These theory can advance nursing as a profession and as a discipline because it helps in providing more efficient patient care by new innovations in nursing field by upgrading in knowledge and clinical experience For example - evidence based practice .

4. Phenomenology is the study of things of how they appear in our mind , basically it is patients lived experience . Its influence on nursing care :-

Enables the nurse to appreciate the uniqueness of an individual

-Provides perspective as to the patient's personal meaning of the illness experience

-Provides an understanding or insight into how/why a patient may respond to the illness experience

-'knowing the patient' is congruent with caring in nursing
