Human disease can result from infection by pathogens, environmental conditions, and/or it can be inherited from the parents (i.e. genetics). You are working for the Center for Disease Control and you have been assigned to determine if a new disease results from a pathogen, an environmental condition, or genetics. With what you know right now, how would you determine that the disease is in fact a genetic disorder?

A diagnosis of a genetic condition can be done on the basis of a person physical characteristics/features : short stature ,Misshapen teeth,Unusually tall or short stature,Webbed fingers or toes,Large or small tongue.

Genetic condition can be evaluated by collecting family history details of mental retardation,chromosome abnormalities Down syndrome, klinefelter, cleft lip/cleft palate,congenital heart defects,neural tube defects,short stature,single gene defects (cystic fibrosis),hearing or visual impairments,learning disabilities,psychiatric disorders, multiple pregnancy losses (miscarriages, stillbirths or infant deaths)

Laboratory tests to detect genetic origin diseases : Molecular, chromosomal, and biochemical genetic testing to diagnose genetic disorders.

Polymerase chain reaction is a common technique for making numerous copies of short DNA sections from a very small sample of genetic material. It helps to rule out cause of certain diseases, such as those associated with cancer or genetic disorders.

DNA sequencing refers to determining the order of bases [adenine (A), thymine (T), cytosine (C) and guanine (G)] that make up DNA.

Karyotyping begins with placing cells on glass slides and separating whole chromosomes from the nuclei of the cells.
