Answer #1

Croup is the viral infection of the trachea, brochi or the larynx(voice box).It is also called laryngotracheobronchitis. The inflammation of the voice box causes it's swelling and distinct stridor sound. The virus that infects is influenza and para influenza virus. It causes swelling of the voice box of the larynx.Bronchodilators have nothing to do with the swelling of the voice box caused by the croup. For treating croup we should reduce the inflammation of the voice box.Bronchodilators increase the inflammation and increase the risk.So they should no be used in treatment of croup.Dexamethasone,a steroid which reduces the inflammation is used to treat croup.
