CASE STUDY Melissa is a baccalaureate prepared school nurse currently enrolled in a DNP program. She works with elementary school children in kindergarten through fifth grade. During the summer, Melissa works as the camp nurse in a beautiful moun- tain setting. The camp is designed for healthy elementary school children, and Melissa is the only healthcare worker at the camp. Every week during the 11 weeks of summer, approximately 170 different children attend the camp. Thirty staff members, mostly younger than 20 years of age, work with the children and perform duties such as cooking and maintenance. Melissa often feels as though her load is 200 children per week. Before arriving at the camp, parents of the children complete hard copies of the general health history form, medical records form, and contact information. When parents drop off their children at camp, they are required to check in with Melissa to validate that the forms are completed. Melissa also validates the information with parents and asks questions as needed. Nearly 40% of the children take a medication. Many are prn medications such as common antiallergy medications. Other medications include epinephrine pens and medications for attention-deficit disorder and autism. It is common to see big buckets of medications and health forms at the close of registration on the first day of camp. 1. Melissa needs a strategy framework for implementing her plan. she should start with introducing a strategy lexicon that everyone can easily understand and follow. she may use a network analysis method, which is a graphic plan of all events and activities to be completed, in order to reach an end objective.

she may also use a Programme Evaluation and Review Technique which enables a more detailed planning a more comprehensive supervision. it allows to estimate the approximate time by which the plans can be implemented and also to identify the steps that are critical in achieving the objective.
