* Calculation of gtt/min.

       Formula = Volume(ml) /Time(min) * Drop factor (gtt/ml).

   Here

         Volume(ml) = 125 ml.

         Time(min) = 90 min.

         Drop factor = 60 gtt/ml.

    As per above formula

           Flow rate (gtt/min) = 125/90 * 60

                                          = 1.38 * 60

                                          = 82.8 gtt/min.

17) a) Calculation of volume(ml) of drug added to D5W.

               Formula = Desired dose/Dose in hand * Quantity.

          Here

             Desired dose(D) = 150 mg.

             Dose in hand (H) = 250 mg.

                 Quantity(Q) = 10 ml

    As per above formula

            Volume(ml) of drug added = D/H * Q

                                                      = 150/250 * 10

                                                      = 0.6 * 10

                                                      = 6 ml.

b) Flow rate (gtt/min).

         Formula

             Flow rate(gtt/min) = Volume(ml) /Time(min) * Drop factor(gtt/ml).

       Here

          Volume(ml) = 100 ml.

          Time(min) = 60 min.

          Drop factor(gtt/ml) = 60 gtt/ml.

   As per above formula

          Flow rate(gtt/ml) = 100/60 * 60

                                     = 1.66 * 10

                                     = 16.6 gtt/min.

18) Calculation of volume(ml) of drug required.

          Formula = Desired dose/Dose in hand * Quantity.

       Here

          Desired dose(D) = 150 mg.

          Dose in hand (H) = 250 mg.

              Quantity(Q) = 1 ml.

   As per above formula

        Volume(ml) of drug required = D/H * Q

                                                      = 150/250 * 1

                                                      = 0.6 ml.

19) Calculation of ml/hr.

           Formula

               ml/hr = Volume(ml) /Time(hr).

           Calculation of volume

                Volume(ml) = Desired dose/Dose in hand * Quantity.

          Here

              Desired dose(D) = 3.2 mg.

              Dose in hand (H) = 100 mg.

                   Quantity(Q) = 250 ml

    As per above formula

           Volume(ml) of drug required = D/H * Q

                                                   = 3.2 / 100 * 250

                                                   = 0.032 * 250

                                                   = 8 ml.

                           Time(hr) = 1 hr.

            ml/hr = 8 ml/hr.

20) Calculation of mg/min.

             formula

                 mg/min = mg/ml * ml/min * hr/min.

         Here

              mg/ml = 2000 /500

              ml/hr = 60/1

              hr/min = 1/60

    As per above formula

             mg/min = 2000/500 * 60/1 * 1/60

                          = 4 * 60 * 1/60

                          = 240 * 1/60

                          = 4 mg/min.

21) Calculation of volume(ml) of drug required.

           Formula = Desired dose/Dose in hand * Quantity.

       Here

          Ordered dose = 15 mg/kg/day.

          Weight of the patient = 159 lbs.

     Convert lbs to kg for calculation

                   1 lbs = 0.454 kg

          Weight of the patient in kg = 72.12 kg.

     So

           Desired dose(D) = 15 * 72.12

                                       = 1081.8 mg.

           Dose in hand (H) = 1000 mg (1g)

               Quantity(Q) = 3 ml

    As per above formula

            Volume(ml) of drug required = D/H * Q

                                                          = 1081.8 / 1000 * 3

                                                          = 1.08 * 3

                                                          = 3.24 ml/day.

         Volume(ml)of drug required per dose = 3.24 / 4 (4 divided doses)
