Answer #1

pH interpretation :

When it is less than the normal level it is called as acidosis

When it is more than the normal level it is called alkalosis

In respiratory acidosis with metabolic alkalosis, the pH is normal ,with elevated PaCO2 ,HCO3

In respiratory alkalosis with metabolic acidosis, the pH is normal, with decreased PaCO2,HCO3

CO2 and HCO3 interpretation

It is categorized broadly into two Respiratory (acidosis/alkalosis) and Metabolic (acidosis or alkalosis)

  • Respiratory can be detected with the help of CO2 levels
    • If respiratory acidosis, the levels are increased
    • If respiratory alkalosis, the levels are decreased
  • Metabolic can be detected with the help of HCO3 levels
    • In metabolic acidosis, the HCO3, pH and PaCO2 are decreased
    • In metabolic alkalosis, the HCO3, pH and PaCO2 are increased

1.pH:7.33 (decreased) acidosis

PaCO2:32(decreased) metabolic

HCO3:20 (decreased) metabolic

  • Less pH,HCO3 ,PaCO2= Metabolic acidosis

2.pH:7.47(increased) alkalosis

PaCO2:49(increased)

HCO3:28(increased)Metabolic

  • More pH,PaCO2 ,HCO3=Metabolic alkalosis

3.pH:7.44(normal)

Pa CO2:49(increased)

HCO3:29(increased)

  • Normal pH,more PaCO2 ,HCO3=Respiratory acidosis with metabolic alkalosis

4.pH:7.34(decreased)acidosis

PaCO2:49(increased)

HCO3:28(increased)

Decreased pH ,increased PaCO2 ,HCO3=Respiratory acidosis (acute uncompensated)
