According to Katz, heterosexuality was invented in the 19th century in Germany when the term homosexuality was becoming more popular. It was a social invention because homosexuality was not allowed in the society and considered deviant behavior. When the need to include homosexuality became imminent, there arose a need to invent a name for the traditional sexual attraction or relationship between a man and woman. So, this is not a religious invention but the need of the hour due to the rise in individual freedom.
