1. The referral laboratory calls to report the values on several tests performed on the urine of a patient, Cecelia Roberts. Marsha jots down the following: Total protein, 0.12; Occult blood, positive; Albumin, 50; Glucose, 120. What is wrong with the notations she has just made? Are these tests qualitative or quantitative?

2. Dr. Watkins has ordered a routine urinalysis (UA), a urine culture and sensitivity (C&S), a blood glucose test, and a complete blood count (CBC) for his patient. Which division of the laboratory is responsible for analysing the specimens for each test?

3.  44-3 pg. 1016 Procedure 44-1 uses the glucose control by which the overall quality control (QC) results for the class will be analyzed. When all the results are logged on the flow sheet, the class will determine whether the glucometer results are accurate, precise, and reliable. Based on the results, may the glucometer be used to test patients? If not, what should be done?

4. Marsha will be performing a hemoglobin test on a blood sample that was collected into a test device. The device will be placed in a HemoCue instrument that procedures a digital readout based on the amount of light that passes through the specimen. First, Marsha must perform an optics check, using the control device provided by the manufacturer, to see weather the instrument has been calibrated correctly. If the control does not match the manufacturer's reference value, would Marsha be able to run the patient’s test? Why or why not?
