Answer #1

This is a simple problem requesting us to perform the six stepped hypothesis testing for the given set of data.

Before we start ,i think we can spend some time over undrstand as to what is a hypotheiss testing?

A hypothesis testing a statistical process /tool to validate or reject our assumption with respect to a certain case .In it ,we assume validity of a statement and then with the help of statistical analysis including comparing of test statisitic to the critical test statistic , we decidie if our assumption is valid or not with a certain degree of confidence (95%,99% ,...)

There are six steps of hypothesis testing as follows.

SIX STEPS FOR HYPOTHESIS TESTING

1. CREATION OF HYPOTHESES MODEL

  1. State in requirement to be tested:
  2. State Research Hypothesis
  3. Null Hypothesis
  4. Alternate Hypothesis

2. UNDERSTAND AND MENTION THE ASSUMPTIONS

iT includes:

1. measurement level of data,

2. distributions underlying the data,

3. knowledge or lack of about population characteristics

4. sample size and method,

5. sample characteristics necessary for applying the test statistic,

6. level of significance for testing

3. DEVELOP THE TEST STATISTIC (or Confidence Interval Structure)

1. Write and explain properly the structure to be used to test significance levels or set of confidence intervals (be sure to include the equations & notation) .This is usually provided with the problem statement itself.

2. special conditions to be met by statistic .This will give us the limitations of the test

4. CREATE THE REJECTION REGION (or Probability Statement)

Expected measure of the test statistic as generated from tables or critical valve for a confidence interval. This is provided from the table of the statiscal references based no the the z statisitic ,sample size and type of tail of the test.

Before you start the calculations you should inform the reader as to how the test will be used to reject of fail to reject the null hypoethesis and the critical value for making the determination.

5. CALCULATIONS (Annotated Spreadsheet)

Actual test statistic measure or confidence interval generated including specification of all additional equations used plus notation. May also include sample calculations.

Solving any problem is as much an art as a skill. From the skill side you should break the problem down into small parts or modules, these you will then want to continually check using sample calculations, your hand calculator, and other methods to make certain that no errors occur in the solution.

6. CONCLUSIONS

Statement of results or the acceptance, or rejection of the null hypothesis & future direction of research.

Should include summary of results in tabular, graphical, or mapped form, plus a discussion of where this research has led you.

Now based on the six steps and the data provided with the as shown below ,we proceed with the hypothesis testing as shown below.

Data Set

Column1 Mean 50.575 0.259900129 50.65 Standard Error Median Mode 50.9 643752742 2.701923077 0.215103263 Standard Deviation Sa

So in our hypothesis testing ,we have been given with a sample having mean =50.575 ,sample size =40 and standard deviaiton as 1.64375.

Kindly note that we have not been provivded with any information about the population from which this sample has been drawn.

However, for the sake of discussion we shall assume that the sample is taken out from a population whose hypothised mean is 50.

Now we will conduct the hypothesis testing as shown below along with steps.

The provided sample mean is X 50.575 and the sample standard deviation is s 1.64375, and the sample size is n 40 The followin

Confidence Interval The 90% confidence interval is 50.137 < μ < 51.013. T-Test Results: t-stats 2.212. p-value 0.0164 0.40 0.
