Here are the results of a survey that examines preference for peanut or plain M&Ms and exercise level. Are these variable related? Do the calculations by hand.

1.   Calculate expected values. You may edit the table and write the expected values below the observed values. Use whole integer numbers, don’t include decimals in your calculations. Example: 145.67 is written as 145. (2 points)

2.   Calculate the chi-square statistic value. Expand the chi-square formula and show your work. Just writing the final answer will earn zero points. Round values to one decimal only. Example: 12.29 is retained as 12.3. (2 points)

3.   Compare your calculated chi-square statistics with the critical value, level of significance 0.05 (Table B.5 on Page 412 of the textbook). Write both values here. Example: Chi-square statistics = 12.3; Critical Value = 10. (2 points)


4.   Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? Circle your answer. (2 points + 2 points for overall agreement between all answers).
