Ans- 5 the following statements are true for the Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast , except

yeast mating type a- cell responds to a factor, alpha cell responds to alpha factor.

This is not true because yeast mating type a cell responds to factor alpha, and vice versa. Yeast reproduces sexually. To achieve this, yeast releases a signalling pathway so to attract the other mate. This process is known as mating factor pathway.In this haploid yeast cells are attracted to the other cells which are having opposite mating factor.So any haploid cell containing a factor will respond to alpha cell and vice versa.

​​​​Ans- 6 Diploid Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast cells contain the following alleles at the MAT locus-

alleles a and alpha.

Haploid cells of yeast contains only of the alleles i.e either a or alpha and shows the following characteristics as well. But in diploid yeast cells, both alleles are present on MAT locus but they are not homologous to each other. This means that any of these two genes are not present at the same loci but in same region that is being stated as MAT locus. When a diploid cells undergoes division and forms a haploid cell ,only one of the allelle is being transferred to the daughter yeast cells.
