Answer #1

1. The microbiological incubator function has to grow and maintain the cell cultures. The incubator has a optimum temperature, humidity, CO2 and O2 concentration.

2.A. Pure culture is defines as the single species of bacteria grown in the culture plate or media.

B. Mixed culture is defined as more than one species of bacteria grown in the culture plate or media.

C. Chromogenesis is a process where pigments produced by a different species results in different colors. It is used to differentiate between the bacterial species in the culture.

D. Enrich media is used to enhance the growth of desired bacteria in exponential manner and other bacteria grow in steady state.

E. Selective media is used to grow only the desired bacteria and unwanted bacteria growth are inhibit by adding certain antibiotics.

F. Reducing media or Anaerobic growth media maintain only the pure culture of anaerobic bacteria. The media has sodium thioglycolate combines with dissolved oxygen and depleted oxygen in medium to growth of only anaerobic bacteria.

You are given a mixed culture of two organisms in a small tube of TSB. These two organisms include a Gram-negative strain (your bacterial strain to identify) and a Gram-positive strain (a contaminant). Your first task is to isolate these organisms which will help you identify which Gram-negative strain you are working with. 1) You inoculate two streak plates on TSA media and MacConkey Agar using aseptic technique. For each medium, state whether the medium is selective, differential, or neither and...
