What is the hibernation file and what purpose does it serve? What type of data can we expect to find in this file? Are hibernation files more prevalent on mobile devices? Please explain.
Answer)
A hibernation file is a file used by an Operating System to
'Hibernate' the system. In windows OS the hibernation file is
hiberfil.sys. Hibernation in a computer is the process which saves
the open documents and running application to the hard disk and
then turns off the computer. When the computer is turned back on,
the hibernation will resume everything where the user left off.
Thus hibernation mode uses a file known as hibernation file on the
hard disk to store the current state of the system and save
it.
The hiberfil.sys file stores the contents of the RAM and is the
size of the RAM mostly.
Thus we understand that in computer OS the hibernation is a power
saving feature which powers down the computer while maintaining its
previous state.
Yes, hibernation is prevalent on mobile devices wherein the CPU and
other hibernation apps monitor the performance of the mobile. If
the memory is clogged and there is not enough memory or wastage of
memory or some application does not need to run or the user has not
chosen for the application to run, hibernation is done to save the
power and thus reduce battery and power consumption to extend the
battery life. Battery life in mobile devices is very important,
thus the more the backup, the better.
