Recruiting is an important part of human resource management. You are the owner of a manufacturing business that operates in multiple countries. A position for a global marketing manager has just opened up. Many of the other managers at your company feel like this is a good opportunity for promoting someone within the company (internal hire). But you question this approach because you aren't sure if this is the best way to go because you aren’t sure if any of the existing managers are truly qualified for this position. So, you are leaning toward hiring someone from outside the company (external hire). What are the pros and cons of internal recruiting in this particular situation? What are the pros and cons of external recruiting in this situation? To ensure immediate feedback, please submit a response of 1000 words.

Answer #1

The position of a global marketing manager is something which cannot be handled by everyone when the company is dealing with many countries. We need an experienced person who can handle pressure and is well qualified to handle the responsibilities that come up with the job. Promoting a manager from the managers available in the company is a good move as long as the manager we choose is fit enough to handle the position. We need to select the correct person and this will required some testing or a formal interview. The advantage of this step is that we do not require to go through the recruitment process which needs time and money . But the disadvantage is that the person might not be qualified enough or they might not have the experience required for that particular position or they might not be able to handle different countries. This might effect the performance and reputation of the company.

External hire takes time and money and we have to go through the tiring process of recruitment but it gives us the exact person who will be fit enough to handle the job. We can select people as per our reqiurements and the pressure we get from employees to promote them can also be prevented. The process helps us in testing the candidates thoroughly and select accordingly.
