Atherosclerosis is an abnormal condition in which lipid or cholesterol content deposits in the arteries which leads to blockage of it. The situation disturbes the normal function of artery or blood flow.
Arteries are pipe like structure composed of three layers.
Outer layer : tunica externa

In the atherosclerosis the innermost layer get ruptured first and then initiate it. After rupturing of innermost layer a liquid or semisolid content composed of lipid, fatty acid and cholesterol deposition get started.
The deposition and quantity of plaque increases and blocks the passage of artery. It blocks 50% of arterial passage. When it reaches from 70-90% it either form blockage of artery or form a blood clot.
