A test cross is performed to determine the map distance between alleles. The frequency of recombination is obtained by conducting test cross, and the frequency of recombination is equal to map distance.

a). So, we will recessive heterozygous fly for the mapping project. Its genotype will be ststssssebeb and its phenotype will be scarlet eyes, ebony body color and spineless.

b). The parental gametes produced will be the two two arrangements given in the figure. Which is st+sseb and stss+eb+.

c). According to the arrangement, the double crossovers will be st+ss+eb and stsseb+.

d). To obtain wild type phenotype, that is st+ss+eb+, only one loci should be recombined in the second arrangement or chromosome, so it will be a case of single crossover between st and st+ loci.
