The genes P and W are linked. The parents PPww and ppWW were crossed to create the PpWw dihybrid. The gamete Pw is produced 36% of the time. What is the distance between the two genes?

My first thought was 36 cM, but that doesn't sound right for linked genes.

Answer #1

The linkage is inversely proportional to the recombination.

as the distance between two genes increases the chances of recombination is also increases.

After the crossing between two parents we obtained 3 kind of Springs

Offsprings which are similar to Parent first

offsprings which are similar to parents second

offsprings which are the components generated due to recombination reaction.

if 1% recombinant offsprings are obtained then we can say that genes are 1 cm aparts.

if we obtain 36% recombinants offsprings then we can say that the linkage between two genes are 36 cm.

Which of these statements is incorrect? Syntenic genes are located on the same chromosome. Independent assortment results in recombinant chromosomes. You can reliably predict the relative genetic distance from genes’ physical distance on a chromosome. Linked genes are always syntenic. In the tomato, three genes are linked on the same chromosome. Tall is dominant to dwarf, fruit skin that is smooth is dominant to skin that is peachy, and fruit with a normal tomato shape is dominant to oblate shape. A plant that is true-breeding for dominant traits was crossed to a dwarf plant with peachy, oblate fruit. The F1 plants were then test crossed to dwarf plants with peachy, oblate fruit. The following results are obtained. 200 tall, smooth,...
