Answer #1

In a solution, when the concentrations of OH- and H+ are multiplied, we always get the product 10-14.

For Solution A -

Given, [OH-] = 3.05 x 10-7 M

[OH-] X (H30+1; = 10-14

10-14 [H30*] = ОН-1

10-14 H30+] = 3.05X10-7

H30+1 = 3.28 X 10-8 M

For solution B -

[H30+1 = 7.77X10-9 M

10-14 [OH] = [H30+1

10-14 OH] = 7.77X10-9

OH-] = 1.29X10-6 M

For solution C -

H30+1 = 6.27X 10-4 M

10-14 [OH] = [H30+1

10-14 OH] = 6.27X10-4

[OH-] = 1.59X10-11 M

A solution is said to be basic if [H3O+] < 10-7 and acidic if [H3O+] > 10-7

Similarly, a solution is basic if [OH-] > 10-7 and acidic if [OH-] < 10-7

So, Solution A is basic because [OH-] > 10-7

That is , 3.05 x 10-7 M > 10-7

Solution B is basic because [H3O+] < 10-7

That is, 7.77 X 10-9 < 10-7

Solution C is acidic because [H3O+] > 10-7

That is, 6.27 X 10-4 > 10-7
