Ladder-like double helix with complementary base pairs forming the rungs of the “ladder”

Note

The monomer of DNA is nucleotide. One molecule of nucleotide is made up of three different compounds. Sugar molecule and nitrogenous base attached to each other with the help of glycosidic linkage and form a nucleoside. When a phosphate group attaches to the sugar molecule of nucleoside with the help of phosphodiester bond of nucleotides is formed..

Every molecule of DNA is made up of two strands which are called around each other and therefore DNA is called as double stranded. Each strand is made up of a sugar phosphate backbone and appears like a ladder. The Rings of the ladder are made up of nitrogenous bases. Nitrogenous bases pair up with each other in a complementary manner.
