Question
My workings so far , I do not understand the directions cosine of normal to weld , please help ???
A thin walled cylindrical pressure vessel of 0.3m radius and 6.0mm wall thickness has a welded spiral seam at an angle of 30° with the axial direction. The vessel is subjected to an internal pressure of p (Pa), and an axial compressive load of 9TT (kN) applied through rigid end plates. Find the maximum allowable value of p if the normal and shearing stresses acting simultaneously in the plane of the weld are limited to 21 MPa, and 7 MPa respectively. Answers: p 0.49 MPa
