As we’ve discussed, cancer cells tend to prefer glycolysis to cellular respiration for ATP production in a phenomenon known as the Warburg Effect. Knowing this, propose a method that could be used to halt the progression of cancer cells by altering the “Warburg Effect Pathway”

Question

The cancer cell switch to anaerobic respiration when there is a lack of oxygen in the cells or have hypoxia. For halting the progession of the cancer cells, we must try to stop the glycolysis process in only cancer specific cells. One of the enzyme, which is hexokinase that catalyze the first reaction of glycolysis , targeting this enzyme by an inhibitor will block the glycolysis reaction and therefore cancer cell will die because of lack of ATP. In order to save the normal cell from the inhibitor, only cancer cell are treated in hypoxic condition and inhibitor will be added that will specifically bind the enzyme and stop the glycolysis in cancer cells.
