development of biomimetic for better large scale water purification. as the wrold population increasing it require more water supply this require salt removal to make them useful. tranditional reverse osmosis membrane used for desaltination uses semi permeable film which require high pressure to force water. the sandia laborataries uses porus membrane that rejects specific salts and water will flow with low pressure reduce energy cost.

the biggest challenge is the the membrane has to be economically avilable with low cost and half life of the membrane should be high compare to conventional membranes, and they need to collabrate with different water purification industries.
