Answer #1

The team based approach to increase productivity and reduce costs are the best option keeping in mind that these affect a wider pool of people and also organization wide change can be better implemented by aligning team productivity as per requirements rather than simply focussing on individual productivity which can only create isolated pockets of productivity.

However there is a challenge of aligning the training needs to ensure that team learning happens and the training can even alleviate the weakest link in the team. So the primary challenge is to ensure that training takes care of the needs of the entire team and no individual is left behind. Secondly, it is also to be ensured that team productivity is ensured by a unified effort rather than the brilliance of a few members. Also the gains realised through enhanced productivity must be shared amongst all the members and should not be confined to few.

The organization could address these issues:-

1) By ensuring a democratic set up wherein efforts made by everyone to increase productivity is valued.
2) Inititatives to increase team output is given more importance than individual brilliance
3) A culture of team work and co-ordination is inculcated and encouraged rather than focussing on few high performing employees
