Mr and Mrs Connelly are planning to start a family. However, Mr Connelly is concerned that, as his brother was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, he may be a CF carrier. Their GP explains how Mr Connelly may carry the faulty CFTR gene using a Punnett square.
Using Cc to represent a carrier, create a Punnett square using the template below to explain to Mr Connelly his chances of inheriting the gene from his parents if both of them were CFTR carriers.

Answer #1

In this question, as father and mother of Mr. connelly are carrier for cystic fibrosis gene. This disorder is autosomal recessive disorder. It means the disease will occur only if the children genotype is "cc".

Father genotype is Cc

Mother genotype is Cc

Therefore , punnet square will be like this

Therefore, fifty percent of children will have the probability of having cancer.

25 percent children will have the chance of cystic fibrosis .

Hence, Mr. conneley have 25 percent chance of having the disease.

    3. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive disorder (cc) and is one of the most common life-shortening genetic diseases. In the United States, 1 in 4,000 children are born with CF. Symptoms of cystic fibrous include the production of salty sweat and thickened mucus in the lining of the lungs and air passages. The thickened mucus obstructs airways and promotes the growth of disease-causing bacteria in the lungs. Most individuals with cystic fibrous die in their 20s and 30s...

CF affects cells that produce thin and slippery mucus and cause the secretions to become sticky and thick. CF is caused by a deletion mutation on chromosome 7. In order for a child to have cystic fibrosis they must inherit a defective gene from each of his/her parents a) Rob...

You will now create a pedigree chart from their family history and use the pedigree to predict the pattern of inheritance the disease follows. • Read the following family history: Patient 1 and Patient 2 visited a genetics counselor and provided their family histories. Mendelian Genetics The gene involved in the disease Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA) is on human chromosome 11. Allele “A” is the normal form of the gene and codes for a part of the protein complex called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is required for your blood cells to carry oxygen. Allele “a” is an abnormal form of the gene. The hemoglobin protein made from the “a” allele is defective. Red blood cells containing the defective protein are very fragile. This disease is recessive–meaning...
