Steroid hormones are generally hydrophobic and can cross the outer membrane bilayer by nonmediated solution

nonmediates --> no energy required, sicne it is hydrophobic (won't mix with water)

2)

Peptide hormones are generally water soluble proteins/oligopeptide that would not easily cross the outer membrane of a cell...

this is due to the fact that the peptide will require energy, since it is not solbuel in fat (bilayer of membrane)
