Answer #1

Let us say plane is flying in the eastward direction !!

vcp = - 100 i^ mph
vpg = + 300 i^ mph

Velocity of car w.r.t ground, vcg = vcp + vpg

vcg = - 100 + 300 i^ mph
vcg = 200 i^ mph

Speed relative to ground = 200 mph,

Direction : -In the direction of plane !!

    Problem 1: A car of mass 1000 kg moves at a constant speed of 20 m/s along a horizontal road where a frictional force is 200N. Calculate the power developed by the engine. If the car now moves up an incline at the same constant speed, calculate the new power developed by the engine. Assume that the frictional force is still 200 N and that sin(theta)=1/20 where theta is the angle of the incline to the horizontal. Problem 2: An...

    Tom has an initial wealth of 100. His car may be stolen so he runs a risk of a loss of 40 dollars. The probability of loss is 0.2. It is possible, however, for Tom to buy insurance. Thus, if α units of insurance are brought, the wealth of Tom will be 100-γα if there is no loss (a good state) and 100-γα-40+α if the...
