Explain the difference between viruses and bacteria. Communicate this answer for someone who has no background in science. Compare viruses and bacteria using everyday parallel and with out using scientific words (if you must use a scientific word have it connect to everyday comparison so it is understood). No jargon should be used.

Answer: Difrences between Bacteria and Viruses:

Bacteria are unicellular microorganism( single celled ).They are found in many type of weather and climate conditions like hot spring,desert, snow and deep oceans.

  • Many of them are parasites. They may be photosynthetic autographs (make their own food from sunlight), chemotrophic(chemical dependent) or heterotroph (do not synthesize their own food).
  • Many bacteria species causes disease like Cholera,typhoid,tetanus,citrus canker etc.

On the other end side Viruses are noncellular organism. They are connecting link between living and nonliving. They consists both DNA and RNA but one at a time.

  • Outside the living body of host. They become inert crystal like structure.when they infact the host body. They take control over machinery of host cell to replicate themselves and killing the host organism.
  • They are the obligate parasites.They caused various diseases like influenza, polio,AIDS, Ebola,Bird flue, Swine Flu etc.
