Strep throat is a bacterial infection that is caused by a group of bacteria known as Streptococcus pyogenes. It affects the throat making it sore and scratchy. It is a communicable disease that can be spread easily via close contact with an infected person and the droplets released with their sneezing or coughing. It is a type of group-A strep, belongs to gram-positive bacteria, which is generally present in the throat or on the skin.

In some cases, strep throat can lead to fever with symptoms like strawberry tongue and facial rash. The tongue becomes swollen and bumpy. Also rashes appear on the face and other body parts. This disease is more common in children and teenagers.
