Answer #1

We are given the survival rate of each individual.

The relative fitness of each genotype is calculated by dividing the survival rate of each genotype by the highest survival rate, i.e.,

Relative fitness (w) = Survival rate of a particular genotype/Highest survival rate.

In the given question, the highest survival rate is that of A2A2.

Relative fitness of A1A1 (w11) = Survival rate of A1A1/Survival rate of A2A2 = 10/15 = 0.666

Relative fitness of A1A2 (w12) = 10/15 = 0.666

Relative fitness of A2A2 (w22) = 15/15 = 1.000

Fitness is the relative reproductive success of a genotype. We calculated the fitness values (W) for a series of genotypes to be as follows: A1A1:   W11 = 0.67 A1A2:   W12 = 1.00 A2A2:   W22 = 0.45 After comparing these fitness values, you conclude that: It appears that one allele is favoured over another, therefore, directional selection is likely the form of selections. The fitness of the heterozygote is greater than both the homozygotes, and therefore overdominance is the likely the...

In a population of mice a particular locus has two alleles A1 (dominant) and A2 (recessive). There are 126 A1A1, 167 A1A2 and 88 A2A2. Is this population in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (3 pts)? In a population of Gragons, there are 3151 A1A1, 1678 A1A2 and 2014 A2A2 individuals. Normal red blood cells are flexible and round, and can easily move through the blood vessels. However, in...
