Why do so many people rely on prescription medications and how do we effectively educate people about the dangers of abuse?

Due to some reasons many people rely on prescription medications. One major reason is the advertisement. Number of advertisements are really increased in a large scale to promote this. Not only the advertisements only, today's fast paced, stress filled life are some major reasons for the patients to depend on prescription drugs. Impatient people in today’s fast paced life are searching for some quick relief for all ailments, from heart diseases to headaches. People are really not concerned about the side effects of those drugs, which include stroke, heart attack, kidney failure, bone loss and even cancer. Lazy people are not at all prepared to do a little work to fix their physical problems, bur rely on the prescribed medicine for a quick solution. Because it is easier for them to take a pill than changing their life style.

It is our duty to effectively educate people about the dangers of abuse. First of all we should teach people how to change their lifestyle, like avoiding smoking and drinking, adopting a healthy diet, avoiding junk foods and sugar stuff, increasing physical activities. These may help to reduce cholesterol, blood pressure and different heart problems. Pain killers are most common drugs, prescribed now a days. But these drugs have some adverse side effects. So, we should reach people to suggest them to take plenty of water and rest in headache, by avoiding the pain killers. Awareness is must to educate people. Say, opioid medications, which can produce a pleasure and well being sense, as these drugs affect brain regions directly. We should encourage people not to over use antibiotics. Because in common cold or so, these are not at all needed. In fact overuse of these antibiotics unnecessarily make them resistant. So, it is needed for the patients to do a thorough research of their physical condition, before going to the doctors and they should ask for the alternative solutions or treatments to their health care providers.
