ME 351: Problem Set 2: Mechanical Systems For the systems shown below: a. Find the free body diagram showing all forces (including the initial spring forces). Also label the b. positive direction of all displacements and rotations on the free body diagram. Find the governing differential equation (including the initial spring forces). Express the differential equation in standard form (Output and its derivatives in descending order on the left hand side of the equation, Input and its derivatives in descending order on the right hand side of the equation. For example: My+Cy+Ky=Cx+Kx+r-Mg Define a Datum Point (i.e. SEP, springs unstretched length, etc.) and evaluate the initial spring forces Substitute the values for the initial spring forces into the differential equation to get the final result the differential equation with respect to the defined datum. c. d. The inputs are displacement x and force F and the outputs are y and 0. Also all of the systems are single degree of freedom systems. Show all of your work. 2. 3. K1 K1 M y K2 K2 M y

The system shown below is made up of one mass and two inertia's (M, I1, and I2). Mass M is connected to Inertia I2 by a damper Ci that is pivoted at each end. The system outputs are y and 0, and the input is force F. At the equilibrium position shown all of the springs are unstretched. Therefore for this problem the initial spring forces are zero and may be neglected. Find the governing differential equations of motion in...
