2A. Infant Vision. Describe how infant vision develops. What are the major milestones of vision development in infancy? Describe vision development in domparison to the other senses. Introduction- The term infant vision refers to development of visual system in infant. Unlike a baby’s hearing, which is fully mature by the end of first month, the sense of sight develops gradually over 6 to 8 months. While eyes are physically capable to seeing just fine at birth, but brain is not ready to process all that visual information.

Developments- At birth, infant didn’t know how to use eyes in tandem, so they may have wandered randomly or even crossed now and then. Infant could see colour from birth but had difficulty distinguishing similar tones, so that they prefer high contrast colour and patterns.

At the age of four months, infant begin to learn depth perception and after the month child can spot very small objects and also can identify moving objects. After 8 month of developments the vision gets, 20/200 to 20/400 like an adult’s vision.

Comparison between vision and other senses- The visual information is most prominent than other sense information, an infant learn through combination of eyes and other senses but primarily believed in visual information, expression understanding, face recognition and object manipulation can only be possible by visual information. The process of visuals and other senses belongs to each other and support to identify and analyse objects.

            An infant prefer to look high contrast colours at birth but gradually shift on to tones, moving objects and expression visuals, after year they can able select visual as per demands and the process of attention help them to get information in various ways.
